How does it work?
Iron deficiency is the most common single nutrient deficiency in the world, leading to fatigue, burn-out and a general lack of motivation.
Iron Kick will provide hard-training sports men and women with a quick and easy way prevent
iron deficiency. It contains several critical ingredients which need to be taken alongside
iron to increase its absorption.
Per 1 capsule:
High
Lactoferrin Whey: 500 milligrams
Iron (as Ferrous citrate): 107 milligrams
Vitamin C: 50 milligrams
Copper: (as cupric citrate - containing 50µg elemental copper): 500 micrograms
How does it work?
High
Lactoferrin Whey
Whey protein is made up of many smaller subfractions, including alpha-lactalbumin, lysozyme and
lactoferrin. Each of the subfractions in whey has unique biological properties. Modern filtering technology allows some of the highly bioactive subfractions from whey, such as
lactoferrin, to be separated.
Lactoferrin is included in
Iron Kick to increase the transport and absorption of
iron.
Lactoferrin is known to have a protective effect on the immune system, and will strengthen your resistance to infection [2].
Lactoferrin can also directly inhibit viruses by preventing the virus from infecting healthy cells.
Iron
Iron deficiency is the most common single nutrient deficiency in the world. Early symptoms of an
iron deficiency include an inability to concentrate, irritability, and restlessness. Other signs to look out for include constant feelings of tiredness, laziness, or apathy. Some people with an
iron deficiency also have an odd tendency to crave ice or dirt! This is known as pica (pronounced pie-ka). Not only is
iron important for people who are exercising regularly and want to perform at their best, studies also show that increasing your intake of
iron can reduce the decline in thyroid activity that can bring weight loss to a grinding halt. Some evidence comes from a study at Pennsylvania State University [3]. Test subjects were given a very low-calorie diet for 12 weeks. Those given
iron supplementation had significantly higher concentrations of the thyroid hormones at the end of the diet than patients receiving no
iron.
Iron deficiency reduces the transport of oxygen around your body, leaving you feeling tired and drained. Vegetarians are at greater risk of
iron deficiency than omnivores (meat eaters). However, including meat in your diet is no guarantee that you're consuming enough
iron. Australian women, for example, who include meat in their diet, consume similar amounts of
iron to vegetarians (10-11 milligrams per day). However, this represents only around 85% of the recommended daily amount [4].
Iron Kick contains ferrous citrate rather than ferrous sulphate, as this helps to prevent stomach upsets. If you've tried using
iron supplements before, and stomach upsets have been a problem, then the ferrous citrate in
Iron Kick may be the solution.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. One of many antioxidants, vitamin C may block some of the damage caused by free radicals, which can contribute to the development of various health problems. Antioxidants also help reduce the damage to the body caused by toxic chemicals and pollutants such as cigarette smoke. The body does not manufacture vitamin C on its own, nor does it store it. That's why it's important to include plenty of vitamin C in your daily diet. Large amounts of vitamin C are used by the body during any kind of healing process, whether it's from an infection, disease, injury, or surgery. In these cases extra vitamin C may be needed [1]. Because large doses of vitamin C can react in a negative way with
iron,
Iron Kick contains only the precise amount (50 milligrams) of vitamin C needed to enhance
iron absorption.
Copper
Copper is essential for the proper functioning of numerous enzymes in the body and is essential for the transportation of
iron. Copper also strengthens your resistance to infection and illness, reducing the risk of an interruption to your training program [5].
How do I use it?
Take 1 capsule in the morning with food and another in the evening. Always avoid taking with high dosages of
Vitamin C, and leave at least 6 hours between using
Iron Kick and taking a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement (such as
Protrient).
What results can I expect?
Correcting an
iron deficiency will help to prevent fatigue and burn-out, leaving you with more energy, drive and motivation. Anyone who does not eat a lot of red meat will notice the greatest benefit.
